Sunco: A Display Font That Earns Its Space
Designer Notes You’ll Actually Use
- Test Sunco in black and white first — its warmth comes from proportion and spacing, not color.
- Check small-size readability on actual devices: render it at 18px on a smartphone screen and scroll past it. Does it register instantly? If not, reserve it for larger applications.
- Drop it into real mockups — not just grayscale comps. Try it on kraft paper, matte white cardstock, and a dark-mode UI background.
- Compare uppercase vs. lowercase in context. Some brands need the gravitas of all-caps; others gain intimacy with sentence case.
- Review spacing metrics: Sunco’s default side bearings are generous, but tighter lines in posters may need manual kerning — especially around ‘T’, ‘V’, and ‘W’.
- Pair it thoughtfully: beside a classic serif font for contrast, a clean sans serif font for balance, a delicate script font for accent, and another display font only if you’re aiming for deliberate typographic tension.
- Confirm commercial licensing before using Sunco in client deliverables or digital products. As a premium font, its license covers resale in templates and physical goods — but always verify scope, especially for SaaS or subscription-based design assets.
